Consignment Procedures

If you’ve got a closet full of clothes you no longer wear, why not consign them with Clothes Encounters? It’s a great way to recycle and earn money while clearing clutter out of your life!

WHEN: We view clothing by appointment ONLY Monday - Thursday. This ensures that we can adequately assist both consignee and customer. Please call us at (828) 251-5651 to make an appointment.

SEASONS: We accept Fall & Winter clothing September - December. Spring & Summer items are accepted March - June.

REQUIREMENTS: We specialize in CURRENT higher end women’s clothing and accessories. Boutique and designer items sell very well. We also carry a large selection of both bridal and evening gowns. (Unfortunately, we cannot accept bridesmaids’ dresses.) We do carry some department store items, but please do not bring clothing from Kmart, Walmart, Target, etc. (It’s a pricing issue, not necessarily quality.)

Clothing MUST be clean, wrinkle & odor free, and on hangers (which we return). Please do not bring us items with stains, holes, missing buttons, and other signs of excessive wear. Please do not be insulted if we reject some of your items. Ronna has successfully ran her store for over 25 years, training her assistants to choose items carefully based on these years of experience.

PRICING & COMMISSION: We will price your items to benefit both consignee & customer. We welcome your pricing feedback, but ultimately, the decision is ours based on our knowledge of the clothing market, both resale & retail. We utilize many resources, including the internet, to assist in our pricing decisions. There is a 60/40 split between the store & consignee. We split with the consignee through the 50% sale.

At the end of each season, we donate remaining items to charity. We ONLY return COUTURE handbags and furs after the 50% sale. It is the consignee’s responsibility to voice this desire upon initial consignment. Otherwise, these items will also be donated and we will gladly give you a donation slip. Bridal gowns are kept for 1 year and are then returned.

FEES: There are no fees to consign with us other than bridal consignments. We charge a nonrefundable $10 storage fee for wedding gowns. We will charge $1.00 per item for any article picked up prior to the end of season sale to cover ink/tag & labor expenses.

PAYMENT: We pay by check once a month when your balance is over $25. There is a $1.00 service charge to cover expenses. Store credit is also an option & is a 50/50 split vs. 60/40.
